Statement of identity and intent
We are on a spiritual journey, exploring our place in God,
in the community and in creation.
It’s a journey that’s unfolding: we don’t claim to have arrived.
If you’d like to join us there is space for you to come along.
Vision Statement
Exploring together our place in God,
in the community and in creation
Our guiding Bible verse
“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice,
and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?“
Micah 6: 8
Our core values
Diversity
We are a diverse group of people with different cultures, ethnicities, genders, life experiences, and theologies.
Involvement
We encourage each other to participate in all aspects of church and community life.
Community
We participate in our TUC community and in our wider communities
Who we are
We are a loving Christian faith community with our foundations in the teachings of the Bible and the Jesus way.
We are a diverse group of people who rejoice in our differences and our variety. We honour our shared humanity and our part in creation.
We each bring different skills, interests and experiences to our community, and we strengthen our community through the sharing of these. We honour all contributions to our community, whether small or large.
We learn and grow and share as we journey together.
Our commitments
To love and care for each other as a community, as we learn and grow in faith together.
To support and engage with:
- our local community of Tawa
- our wider church community regionally and nationally (including through the national bodies we are part of)
- the work of the Porirua Hospital Chapel and its staff
- the Eco Church movement
- the work of Wesley Community Action, especially in Porirua East
How we intend to grow
We are keen to grow as individuals and as a community in faith, love and understanding.
There are many ways we can choose to grow and many paths we can explore as individuals and as a community. Love will be our guiding principle as we journey, for God is love.
There will be things we will struggle with as individuals and as a community. We will face these struggles with love: listening first before reacting, and opening our hearts and minds to other views and experiences. We respect that others’ experiences may lead them to different understanding from our own. We will seek loving conversation and deepened understanding, even when we feel personally challenged.
By sharing our skills and experience, we help each other to learn and grow. As we grow in understanding, we also grow in love.
We welcome all those who would journey with us.
