The book aims to debunk the proposition that ‘religions have been the cause of all major wars in history’ and that religion and politics are a dangerous combination. The basis of the rebuttal is that up until the 18th century, religion and politics could not be separated – religion permeated everything. Politics/the state was established and maintained through violence. The new religion is the state/nationalism – people willing to die to protect it.
